Benilde Center for Emergency Management, Safety and Security (CEMSS), through its Campus Emergency and Crisis Response Awareness Program, held a series of talks and demos to ensure emergency preparedness in the event of a possible 7.2-magnitude earthquake that could hit the West Valley fault.
The event further aimed to increase awareness on disaster preparedness and response, and on how to properly respond during natural and man-made disasters.
Dr. Nestor Olarte of CEMSS Security Operations Office gave a background of the West Valley Fault, explained earthquake preventive measures, and identified evacuation locations at Taft, School of Design and Arts (SDA) and Angelo King International Center (AKIC) campuses. For Olarte, it is important that everyone in the Benildean Community is aware of what to do before, during, and after an earthquake. His talk also emphasized the locations of emergency exits for all campuses and highlighted the College’s emergency evacuation procedures.
Mark Henry Lapuebla of CEMSS Emergency Response Management Services held a step-by-step demonstration of first aid treatment for specific emergency scenarios. Nelson Pangilinan, also of CEMSS, shared tips on fire safety.
The Campus Emergency and Crisis Awareness Program of CEMSS was held last 20 and 23 July at Hotel Benilde Maison De La Salle.
