In celebration of its 25th founding anniversary, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde presents the Silver Symposium, a gathering of high school principals and counselors, Benilde’s partners in delivering quality education among the youth.

The Silver Symposium is a one-day event divided into two program segments: (1) Benilde Silver Updates and (2) Professional Development Workshops. The Silver Symposium is an exclusive, invitation-only event.

Mr. Rogelio dela Cruz Jr., M.A.
Mr. Rogelio Dela Cruz is currently the Head of the Office Learner-Centered Instructional Technology. He holds two masters degrees, one in Masters in Learning and Teaching from De La Salle University Manila and a Masters in Psychology from Ateneo de Manila University. He is pursuing a Doctorate in Applied Cosmic Anthropology at the Asian Social Institute. He is passionate about using technology in learning and teaching and has been the lead Moodle developer in Benilde since 2009. He has presented papers on eLearning in local and international conferences. A member of the De La Salle Philippines Elearning Task Force, he is also one of the lead planners of mobile learning endeavors in Benilde.
Dr. Lina A. Miclat
Dr. Lina Agcaoili-Miclat is the current Curriculum Officer of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. Dr. Miclat obtained her Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration from Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University and her Master of Science in Educational Measurement, Evaluation, and Statistics from De La Salle University, Manila. Prior to her joining Benilde, she worked at the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University for 27 years contributing ideas, proposing innovations, teaching and doing research and extension work. She held the designation of Chairman of the Behavioral Sciences Department for 11 years and concurrent to her designation, she was also head of the College of Sciences Psychological Testing Center.
Ms. Maria Teresa Juanita Jose, MS, RGC
Ms. Maria Teresa Juanita Decena-Jose, MS RGC is head of the Career and Placement Office of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. Mari oversees career development programs and services, placement counseling, networking with the industry, and research. She completed her masters degree in guidance and counseling from De La Salle University Manila and her bachelors degree in psychology as a university scholar from Adamson University. Prior to her 10-year stint with the academe, Mari has had 11 years of management consultancy experience. As a consultant, she has developed her skills in the fields of recruitment, training, career counseling and management assessment for business executives. Mari is currently the Ex-Officio of the Career Development Association of the Philippines (CDAP), a national organization catering to the professional development of career counselors and human resource practitioners. She was also an active Board Member and Officer of PAASA-NCR. As a registered counselor, she is likewise affiliated with the Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association (PGCA) and the Association of Placement Practitioners of Colleges and Universities (APPCU). On the personal side, Mari is a dedicated wife and mother. More recently, she has become a doting grandmother.
Dr. Lorna Cañeda, RGC
Dr. Lorna Cañeda, a licensed Guidance Counselor, is presently the Director of the Center for Counseling Services (CCS) of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. She received her graduate training in counseling psychology major in clinical counseling from the De La Salle University, Manila. Dr. Caneda also completed her training in counseling and psychological testing from the Minnesota International Counseling Institute, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis USA. She received special training in Religious Education from Notre Dame Institute of Sacred Doctrine, Notre Dame University. Dr. Caneda is a member of the Special Education Network in Asia (SENIA), the Association of Psychological and Educational Counselors of Asia & Pacific (APECA) and the Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association, Inc. (PGCA). She has participated in conferences and conventions in Asia and the United States. In addition to her counseling pursuits, Dr. Cañeda was also awarded for her services as accreditor by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (PAASCU).
Mr. Elmerando T. Mores, M.A., RGC
Mr. Elmerando T. Mores, a licensed Guidance Counselor, completed his masters degree in psychology from the University of Santo Tomas. He is also a licensed teacher. Mr. Mores had been a religious missionary in Hong Kong and Macau and has practiced guidance and career counseling at the Centro Escolar University, Manuel L. Quezon University and Ateneo De Manila University. As a teacher, Mr. Mores has taught courses in psychology at Colegio De San Juan De Letran, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Arellano University and University of Makati. He was also a co-author of a book entitled "General Psychology Simplified" (2009).

He is presently the auditor of the Career Development Association of the Philippines and a Board of Director of the Family and Pastoral Counseling Association of the Philippines. He is also a member of the Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association of the Philippines, Integrated Professional Counseling Association of the Philippines and Psychological Association of the Philippines.

As a facilitator, He has been actively involved in giving training for students, athletes, parents, teachers, administrators and employees in the areas of peer facilitating, counseling skills, sensitivity and leadership training, stress management, wellness in the workplace, relationship enhancement and vision therapy.
Ms. Mary Ann Pargas, M.A., RGC
Mary Ann Astorga Pargas is a licensed Guidance Counselor and former Director of the Center for Counseling Services (CCS), De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. She received her Bachelor of Arts (AB) major in Psychology at the College of the Holy Spirit, Manila and her Masters of Arts (MA) n Counseling Psychology major in School Counseling at De La Salle University, Manila. She is currently completing her doctoral degree in Child and Family Studies at Miriam College. Ms. Pargas is an active member of the Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association of the Philippines (PGCA), Family Pastoral Counseling Association of the Philippines (FPCAP) and the Special Education Network in Asia (SENIA). She is interested and has attended various trainings in the education of differently-abled students. Her research interests include counseling students with special needs, personality disorders, financial intelligence, wellness, facilitation and training.
Br. Dennis Magbanua FSC
Br. Dennis Magbanua FSC is the President and Chancellor of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. Broden (he is fine with being called this way) is an Apple Distinguished Educator 2011. He is passionate about getting people, especially teachers and school administrators, to use their mobile devices (such as iPads and iPhones) NOT JUST for status updates on Facebook, retweeting the city mayor's announcement of class suspension or Instagramming photos of food served during one's dinner. He also does NOT give out free iPads or iPhones during his workshops.

Dr. Catherine Deen, RP
Dr. Catherine Deen, R.P. is a registered Psychologist and Admissions Director of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. She is passionate about inclusive education which was borne out of her desire to provide differently-abled learners the opportunity to complete higher education. She is a board member of the Special Education Network in Asia (SENIA) which has chapters in China, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong and the Philippines. Dr. Deen completed her doctoral studies in education from De La Salle University where she also completed her bachelor degree in psychology cum laude. She also holds a masters degree in psychology from Ateneo de Manila University. Dr. Deen has experience in psychological assessment including test development specially in the education setting.
Ms. Christina Sison, RP
Ms. Christina S. Sison is a registered Psychologist. She is also a certified Specialist in Assessment Psychology by the Psychological Association of the Philippines. She has served as head of student assessment services at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde for 7 years. She is currently Research Associate of the Center for Education Access and Development (CEAD) involved in completing research that aim to uplift the quality of Philippine deaf education. Her research interests include the cognition and motivation of Deaf Filipino learners. She is also a volunteer sign language interpreter for Catholic liturgy, training and seminars for Deaf Filipinos.

There is an App for That!
This workshop introduces tested and proven effective iOS apps used in technology-enhanced classroom instruction, school management and personal productivity. The facilitator will share about how to boost teachers' delight in teaching and in turn, enhance the students' learning adventure with the use of mobile technology. He will try to get you excited by experiencing a gazillion of great iOS apps and by gathering gainful tips that allow for a highly-engaging classroom instruction, including your own productivity as a school administrator.

This workshop seeks to discuss classroom management strategies focused on handling more challenging learners. A mixture of case studies and classroom scenarios will be used to enhance the learning experience. The exchange of experience-based insights is expected to enrich the discussion.

A Functional Model for Career Counseling and Services using the Cognitive Information Processing (CIP) Approach
The seminar is a structured learning experience that introduces counselors to the Cognitive Information Processing (CIP) theory as a framework for career counseling and services. By the end of the session, the participants would be empowered to make necessary changes and/or improvements on their existing career counseling practices and services.

Nurturing Counselor Wellness in the Workplace
In the daily struggle to cope with the challenges of life specifically with the complexities and demands of working as educators and helping professionals, counselors have to maintain equilibrium and wellness. This workshop is designed to help participants (1) gain a critical understanding of the importance of wellness in the workplace and its implications for happy and effective living, (2) learn simple techniques in coping with stress, (3) evaluate one’s state of wellness to improve subjective well-being, and (4) be able to give and receive affirmation for emotional wellness. A variety of learning strategies will be done to facilitate learning.

Psychological Assessment in Various Settings
The workshop will enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in conducting psychological assessment, and preparing psychological reports. It will emphasize the following: (1) proper understanding of the purposes and utility of standardized measures and non-test instruments, (2) finding appropriate assessment tools to facilitate identification of client needs, and (3) conceptualization of client cases.
