Innovation for Inclusion

Innovation is a response to our desire to be more inclusive in a world where people are marginalized.

When we talk about inclusion and innovation, we put innovation first not because it’s the most important thing but because there is inclusion that we need to do. Without inclusion there’s no need for innovating. How can you include better if you’re not innovating? Innovation is actually a response to our desire to be more inclusive in a world where people are marginalized - the poor, people with special needs and special conditions.

Is this difficult to do? Actually what I feel about Benilde is when you talk about innovation and inclusion put together it seems like it is just there, it is one of those things that is hiding, it’s not out in the open because we are not sure whether it will be supported by either the system or by administrators, by Benilde itself, by the atmosphere, by the working relationship. If we say this is who we are and people felt this is what Benilde is, innovation and inclusion, then how do we make it happen? When we put that forward that’s where people say well we need to collaborate, we need to support one another and that is where success would come in in this area.

Then the other level is we’re not doing this for ourselves, what I would say is the reason why we are doing this is it’s actually being a template for what schools should be in the Philippines.
