Riema is a brand that tackles the “what if” of the Philippine trend cycle, wherein the traditional garments are still being used as casual wear. The designs are a rendition of how the people may have styled the traditional wear into a more trend-forward look. The brand’s debut collection, “Araw-Araw,” starts with the 1800s Filipino garment mixed with the modern basics. As the brand grows, we want to showcase each era of Philippine traditional wear in the current trends. Our goal is to make the Philippine traditional garments more relevant again in mainstream media than they remain in formal wear.
Filipino fashion designer Marjorie Castillo enjoys experimenting with different techniques and concepts. Fabric manipulation and filet crochet are her areas of expertise. She makes her own mixed-media photographs, abstract thread lace, and filet crochet charts. Despite her shy attitude, she expresses herself through her fun, quirky and colorful creations.
