Jonson, Alchellyn

Syncopated Seduction explores the intricate connection between a medical commodity and art expression, the combination of cardiac arrhythmia and burlesque drawn from the designer’s encounter and creative interest.
The concept embodies a layer of emotional depth and a desire to turn a vulnerability into an artistic statement, featuring silhouettes that will play contrasts–concealment and exposure, structure and fluidity, and vulnerability and empowerment.
From a childhood dream to a lifelong pursuit, fashion designer Alchellyn Jonson redefines femininity through daring elegance and universal appeal. Her designs empower women to embrace their distinct stories and express their individuality, each piece a fusion of emotion, artistry, and empowerment— all crafted alchemically.
For this collection, she became both the designer and the story. It was about her.
My name is Alchellyn, and like my name, my thesis collection is meant to be unique and personal.
From my perspective, starting off is always the hardest part. The conceptualization took me weeks before I finally decided on the aesthetic I would go through. Once I had decided, I felt very excited, but at the same time, I feared how I would pull it off.
The process of developing my thesis has been so tough, also considering that there are a lot of techniques I have to know myself, I believe I was learning again in the process of making and that’s the point.
With the help of my professors, loved ones, and my determination, I was able to stitch every single piece in my collection, and seeing them together gives me jitters because this collection is a fruit of literal blood (needle pricks!), sweat, and tears.
