“Di Yan Praktikal” is a collection that explores the tension between practicality and passion. Inspired by the designer’s own experience of being told to “be practical,” it redefines what it means to dream boldly in a world that values conformity. The collection challenges the belief that dreams and creative pursuits are “worthless” or “walang patutunguhan.” It serves as a reminder that passion and individuality should never be silenced by what the world deems practical—and that what others see as worthless can be transformed into something priceless.
Gail Natividad is a contemporary designer whose work centers on both timelessness and individuality. Each piece is crafted from classic pattern silhouettes, elevated through freehand fabric manipulation to create structure that gives freedom in texture and form. This approach gives garments unique shapes that redefine the silhouette. Our focus is on designing statement pieces that effortlessly complement staple wardrobes.
We embrace limitless creativity, transcending boundaries with forms and textures that captivate individuals. Every piece radiates confidence and makes a statement—inviting not just a second look, but a lasting impression.
The most challenging part of this collection was the fabric manipulation, as it was extremely time-consuming and required many days just to complete the details. Pushing through it taught me patience, discipline, and the importance of asking for help, especially during the hand-sewing process, where support became essential. This experience also made me more aware of how time management directly affects the execution of complex designs. Throughout the collection, the skill I refined the most was draping, as it played a crucial role in shaping the silhouettes of my garments. Repeatedly working with draping allowed me to better understand form, balance, and how fabric behaves on the body.
