Notable Stories in February 2025

Sinulid: Threaded Experience showcased graduating Fashion Design and Merchandising students’ collections, highlighting themes of empowerment, individuality, and creativity. The event was followed by an exhibit at the 12th Floor Gallery, which opened on February 5 and will run until May 24.

Art Puno, the highly anticipated event at Benilde’s Design+Arts Campus, recently wrapped up, leaving students and attendees buzzing with inspiration. Running from January 31 to February 1, this vibrant celebration brought together the creative talents of Benilde’s student organizations, including Animotion, Aninag Theatre, Artelier, Ben-X-Dance, DrawINK, IGDA-GUILD, Karilyo, LIKHA, and MediaMax.

On 11 February 2025, St. Joseph’s Institution International (SJI International) from Singapore visited De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, engaging in meaningful exchanges and exploring Benilde’s state-of-the-art facilities and innovative education programs, while both institutions discussed opportunities for future collaboration.

 

During the opening of the 26th Benilde Model United Nations, Ambassadors Datu Abdul Malik Melvin Castellino Anthony of Malaysia and Marie Fontanel of France delivered impactful speeches emphasizing the importance of international collaboration and multilateralism in addressing global challenges.

On February 13, 2025, Benilde and the National University Corporation Tsukuba University of Technology (NTUT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote inclusive, innovative, and globally relevant education through student and faculty exchanges, joint research initiatives, and collaborative learning experiences.

On February 14, the College hosted a focused event featuring Dr. Jane Knight from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, who led a discussion on research security in international higher education, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding research while maintaining open science principles.

On 5 March 2025, the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management celebrated the reopening of Salle de Bordeaux, a newly renovated bar laboratory that serves as a vital learning space for students in the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Luxury Management (BS-HLM) program.

On February 27, 2025, Benilde and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to foster innovation, sustainability, and cross-cultural exchange in architectural education, through collaborative programs, faculty and student exchanges, joint research initiatives, and interdisciplinary projects in regenerative architecture, climate resilience, and urban heat mitigation.

From February 10 to 13, 2025, volunteer Benildeans participated in an intensive Fire Brigade Competency Training organized by the Center for Emergency Management, Safety and Security (CEMSS), where they learned essential emergency response skills, including fire operations, basic life support, and rescue techniques, emphasizing preparedness and teamwork to ensure the safety of the Benilde community.

Organized by the Benilde Alumni Association, the bazaar gathers small and local businesses to showcase their products at the Greenway Square, Taft Campus. A portion of the proceeds went to the Benilde Hope Scholarship program.

The Benilde Blazers Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Teams continue to maintain a clean record in the NCAA Season 100 games! As of March 6, both teams secured their third wins against the San Sebastian Stags (Men’s and Women’s).

    • Pursuant to Benilde Leadership Team Resolution number MM-BLT-2024-12-04-08 and in accordance with Republic Act No. 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, the Benilde Leadership Team (BLT) has approved the implementation of a random drug test for full-time associates (SS, AS, ASF, FTF) as part of the AY 2024-2025 Annual Physical Examination (APE) and Executive Check-Up (ECU). The random drug test will screen for MDMA, Methamphetamines, and Cannabis. The College will randomly select associates to undergo the said testing through a raffle of names facilitated with the APE service provider and a witness from the APE committee. Further, the College will ensure that chosen associates are randomly drawn from across each of the Divisions.
    • The Mandatory Annual Physical Examination will be held on March 3-6 at the Greenway Square, Taft Campus.

    • We are upgrading and modernizing the passenger elevators at our Design+Arts Campus to improve their performance and reliability. This important enhancement will address current issues with the elevator controls and ensure a better experience for everyone. The new manual operation scheme will be in effect as a pilot run from 8 AM to 5 PM, starting on February 18, 2025. We may adjust the operating hours and zoning based on observed efficiency, and will keep you updated on any changes.
    • We remind all members of the Benildean Community to ensure that lights and air-conditioning units are turned off before leaving the office. Additionally, please check and shut down computers, and unplug any electronic devices or appliances to minimize energy consumption. Share this reminder with colleagues in your area, emphasizing the importance of these small actions. Given the large number of computers, lights, and air-conditioning units in use across the campus, collectively, these efforts can significantly reduce our environmental impact.
  • Center for Health and Medical Services
    • Everyone is reminded to adopt precautionary measures to reduce the risk of infection. Dengue is endemic to the Philippines and is spread by mosquito species, which are primarily daytime feeders but may also bite at night in well-lit places. Taking steps to protect yourself and your surroundings can significantly help minimize this risk. Dengue can become severe; early detection and prevention are essential. Let’s all contribute to staying safe and protecting our community.

    • Sinulid: Threaded Experience officially opened last February 5, 2025, and will run until May 24, 2025, Mondays to Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at A1201, Benilde Design+Arts Campus. This exhibition showcases the talent of 34 graduating designers from the Fashion Design and Merchandising Program, offering a glimpse into Filipino contemporary fashion.
