FIAT — a Latin word meaning “Let it be done” — is a collection of women’s couture pieces that embody devotion, faith, and artistry. It tells the story of a child who once dreamed of having his own image of the Blessed Virgin — now seeing her not only as a sacred figure, but as his utmost inspiration and fashion icon. Each piece draws influence from the titles of the Virgin, merging the virtues of faith, modesty, and patience. Every stitch of gold embroidery becomes a movement of prayer — a testament to dedication, reverence, and perseverance. FIAT is both an offering and an awakening — where couture becomes a sacred dialogue between creator and creation.
Yvan Serrano combines modern and traditional elements in his designs. Based on the idea that fashion is both art and tradition, he designs clothing that respects workmanship and appeals to a modern market. Each piece is the product of painstaking handiwork, emphasizing the importance of perseverance, accuracy, and genuineness in a budding field. His couture creations frequently incorporate storytelling and symbolism, creating items that are both powerful and intimate. By exploring the relationship between faith, identity, and culture through his designs, he gives clothing meaning that goes beyond its outward appearance. He is not only creating clothing by combining the old and the contemporary; he is also telling stories, respecting heritage, and letting people know that tradition still lives within of us.
The hardest part of bringing this vision is making this collection come to life. So much effort was taken to ensure that all religious symbols and elements were used sensitively and respectfully. It was also crucial to make it obvious that these designs are meant to be women’s couture pieces, rather than liturgical vestments. Because of the nature of my selected theme, I got a variety of remarks and criticisms throughout the process of making this collection. In response, I used reflection and prayer to find clarity and assurance, seeking indications that I was headed in the right direction and letting faith, purpose, and intention direct the creative process.
