This Hibla Katawan collection is a vibrant tribute to plus-size individuals, inspired by the rich traditions of Filipino culture. We’ve reimagined nostalgic silhouettes like the Terno and Barong Tagalog with a modern, inclusive vision, championing body positivity and self-expression.

We believe fashion knows no size limits. Each piece is designed to embrace diverse body types, honoring the Philippines’ artistry. Through vibrant fabrics, playful prints, and dramatic silhouettes, we celebrate the joy and resilience of the Filipino spirit, encouraging wearers to own their space with pride.

This collection challenges norms, reshaping them to advocate for liberation, storytelling, and a deeper appreciation for both cultural identity and body diversity. It’s a proud statement: beauty exists in every form, and self-love knows no size.

Salapid Kulay (Intertwined Colors)

The Salapid Kulay is a vibrant celebration of Filipino joy and artistry. Inspired by the spirit of a fiesta, each piece is a playful fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern design. The name, Salapid Kulay, or Intertwined Colors, speaks to the collection’s essence: a lively weave of hues and textures that capture the festive, optimistic heart of the Philippines. We’ve taken inspiration from the intricate latticework seen in Filipino architecture and woven it into a modern, wearable form. This collection is for those who find joy in color and want to wear their vibrant spirit.

Melody Torres believes design is more than just aesthetics—it’s a powerful tool for advocacy. As a designer for the Hibla Katawan collection, she’s taken on a role in shaping an incredible journey, blending her passion with a transformative purpose.

“The core of Hibla Katawan is its vibrant spirit,” Melody explains. “We are representing the colorful aspects of expression and uniqueness, and my design approach truly reflects this.”

The collection is a statement piece for body positivity and Filipino pride. Melody’s work is dedicated to amplifying a significant advocacy: to boldly celebrate the plus-size community and uplift Filipino culture in a way that deeply resonates with the modern generation. Through these lovely pieces, Hibla Katawan offers a big inspiration and a new beginning.

Melody’s visual choices bring this vision to life. “Every layout, every visual choice, is crafted to convey a sense of fun and festivity, mirroring the rich and joyful essence of Filipino traditions,” she says. Her work ensures that the collection doesn’t just look good, but also feels good, embodying the joyful spirit of being proudly Filipino and confidently themselves.

The biggest challenge was designing for an advocacy close to my heart: plus-size body positivity. For too long, the industry has ignored the need for accessible, stylish clothing that actually fits our bodies. I dedicated months to researching specific shapes and proportions to break the cycle of body shaming and discrimination.

Through this process, I discovered a deeper connection to my roots. I chose to weave my Filipino nationality into the concept because I want the younger generation to see that our culture is just as beautiful and diverse as our bodies. I learned that my work isn’t just about clothes; it’s about representing who we are as Filipinos and showing the world that every body is worthy of being celebrated.”

I want people to see the vibrant, maximalist expression of the final garments. I want this collection to serve as a visual motivation for those who are afraid or self-conscious about their bodies. By showcasing these bold, colorful designs, I hope to inspire other plus-size individuals to step out of the shadows. I want them to see that fashion is a tool for courage, and that they should never be afraid of their body’s changes.
