Through clothing as an act of escapism, SPECTACULA invites dreamers of the unconventional to transcend the ordinary and awaken their larger-than-life personas. Inspired by the transformative energy of 1970s rock musicians, the collection celebrates androgyny, glamour, and the art of becoming—inviting its wearers to step into imaginative personas and bring their boldest selves to life. Like putting on a mask, not to hide behind it, but to perform for the audience.
Athena Yo-Eco is a fashion designer who explores the interplay between wearability and self-expression. Drawn to working with her hands, she incorporates techniques like crochet and glue batik into her thesis collection, making craftsmanship a central part of her creative process. Her work reflects a bold and imaginative approach to design through the use of textile patterns and colors, challenging norms and celebrating individuality.
For this collection, the designer incorporated techniques learned throughout her classes, ensuring that each piece showcased at least one method of glue resist dyeing, bead work, and crocheting inspired by the individualistic DIY spirit of the 1970s. The color story features a balanced fusion of prints, textures, elegant shimmers, and bold yet harmonious color combinations, creating the eclectic stage performer persona from the 70’s. Finally, the art direction and styling brought the collection’s identity together; lights, cameras, and rock-and-roll.
