Benilde Industrial Design Program, in partnership with the Center for Campus Exhibitions, launched Alchemy of Ideas, a student-led exhibition that turns design ideas into tangible solutions through creativity, collaboration, and experimentation. The exhibit opened on August 5 and will run until November 5, 2025 at the 8th Floor Hallway and CLR Library Commons of the Design + Arts Campus.
Spanning the entire floor, the exhibition features concept sketches, capstone prototypes, toy designs, paper-engineered projects, furniture, crafts, and collaborative works with industry partners. Each piece shows how students turn design thinking into real-world impact, staying true to the program’s focus on human-centered innovation.
According to the Curatorial Team, the exhibit transforms the design studio into an alchemist’s lab, where diverse influences such as culture, technology, and user insight are shaped into meaningful outcomes. This approach reflects the program’s philosophy of Design Like No Other, which encourages students to explore design as a tool for empathy, experimentation, and change.
Rooted in Benildean Expression of the Lasallian Core Values, the Industrial Design program helps students think critically, design responsibly, and respond to the needs of their environment. The program offers a holistic learning experience that blends research, innovation, marketing, and foresight for impact-driven solutions. The curriculum follows the World Design Organization’s definition of industrial design, focusing on strategic problem-solving that drives innovation, builds business success, and improves quality of life.
The exhibit shows how students use design thinking and product research to solve everyday problems with empathy and purpose. Capstone projects and collaborative outputs demonstrate how learners identify design frameworks, materials, and requirements to meet real-world needs. Toy designs and paper-engineered works reflect creative use of form and function, while furniture pieces and production documents show technical skill and attention to detail.
Some of the works show how students mix different ideas and disciplines to solve real problems. They think about social needs, accessibility, and how people actually use things. By working with others and exploring new approaches, they’re learning to become designers who don’t just make products. They shape experiences, start conversations, and imagine better futures.
Open to the public until November 5, Alchemy of Ideas invites visitors to explore how student design transforms ideas into impact. It’s a space where ideas grow, skills sharpen, and design becomes a way to make life better.
