The Benilde Open Design + Art program returns for its second edition in 2025, building on the success of last year’s theme, Curious. This year’s program highlights the theme Extension of Nature, inviting creative practitioners to explore the intersections of technology, nature, and sustainability to address environmental challenges.
This initiative provides significant funding to support the realization of groundbreaking ideas:
In addition to financial support, grantees will benefit from curatorial assistance offered by the Benilde Open Design + Art team. Selected proponents will have the opportunity to participate in collaborative meetings to refine and stage their projects, ensuring a professional and impactful presentation.
This year’s theme invites innovative proposals that bridge the gap between human-made systems and natural processes. Creators are encouraged to explore approaches such as reimagining discarded materials, integrating renewable energy into kinetic art, or designing interactive systems that respond to environmental conditions. These projects aim to reflect sustainability and the creative reinvention of resources.
The program also nods to the historical evolution of kinetic art and invention, from Leonardo da Vinci’s mechanical designs to the dynamic works of artists like Jean Tinguely and David Medalla. Today’s creators continue this legacy with technologies that push the boundaries of artistic expression, creating responsive, adaptive, and thought-provoking works.
Interested participants can visit Benilde Open 2025 for more information about the program and guidelines. Proposals may be submitted online until 30 July 2025. Don’t miss this chance to bring your bold ideas to life with Benilde Open Design + Art.
