Fine Arts degree on culture-based Philippine art now offered in Benilde

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Culture-Based Arts (BFA CBA) is the newest program of the School of Arts, Culture, and Performance (SACP) of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB). It is now open for registration for the first term of the Academic Year 2023 to 2024.

BFA CBA, the pioneering Fine Arts program rooted in folk and indigenous arts, was designed to empower younger generation of innovators, trailblazers and creative leaders to reshape the world for the future.

With a focus on the living traditions and social engagements within communities, it allows Philippine cultural creativity, sensitivity and ingenuity to identify and respond to local and global trends and issues.

Students will undergo immersion to unlock skills in content creation, project management and cultural and social entrepreneurship that is sustainable and relevant to the country and the world.

They will be exposed to history, theories, and contemporary issues as they demonstrate open-mindedness to various schools of thought.

The learners will be grounded in the tools and techniques of visualizing concepts, including new media, to innovate original artistic expressions.

Under this redefined program, learners will be trained to explore and utilize local materials such as wood, grass, bamboo, rattan, and clay, and maximize digital and non-digital platforms to engage with the community through visual communication.

The pupils will be immersed in social activities and advocacy projects to earn heightened consciousness of the Philippine society and culture and serve the interest of Filipino communities without prejudice to foreign influences.

Enrollees will learn to adapt and translate indigenous and traditional art materials and practices with a historical perspective.

The faculty members are practicing artists and entrepreneurs in their respective creative industries and are recipients of various distinctions and recognitions here and abroad.

With strong focus on Philippine arts production, the hands-on learning will be conducted under the mentorship of master artisans. They will be joined by a roster of experienced and seasoned academe educators, and researchers and movers in the fields of arts and design, art studies, art history, art criticism, archaeology, and cultural studies.

The Benilde Design + Arts Campus, which has been home to arts-related programs for over 15 years, provides an industry-grade environment to the students.

It is equipped with studios and facilities fit for art productions such as pottery, weaving, printmaking, painting, and sculpture.

Computer laboratories with the latest apps for design thinking, digital content creation and art spaces open for inclusive and experiential learning and individual and collaborative research are likewise available.

Graduates of the program are positioned to help local and international civic organizations and agencies involved with indigenous peoples.

Alumni may also pursue a career as government leaders, managers and specialists for cultural agencies, creative and social entrepreneurs and cultural scholars and consultants.

They will be able to pursue a career in the burgeoning creative industries and become multidisciplinary artists and designers, content creators, owners and managers of craft companies, among many other career opportunities.

Culture and arts education as well as healing and expressive arts careers are likewise available.

BFA CBA will require a total of 180 units and will run for 10 trimesters.
