GAD Specialist Leads Safe Spaces Act Orientation on Rights and Responsibilities

12 August 2025

Benilde students joined a campus orientation on the Safe Spaces Act, led by Gender and Development (GAD) Specialist Nicole Trisha Panganiban. Held on July 28, 2025, at the Augusto-Rosario Gonzalez Theater, the session was part of the Student Services Assembly and focused on how the law protects people from sexual harassment in schools, workplaces, and online.

The session opened with a short quiz to check students’ knowledge of the law. Panganiban then walked through the key points of Republic Act 11313, also known as the Safe Spaces Act, including examples of gender-based sexual harassment in public areas, classrooms, and digital spaces. She explained how students can report incidents, what support systems are in place, and how Benilde’s policies align with national law.

Students were invited to ask questions and share concerns. The open forum covered real-life situations, including how to respond when someone crosses a line or makes an unwanted remark. The discussion was direct and practical, helping students understand their rights and responsibilities in everyday settings.

The orientation is part of Benilde’s ongoing effort to build a safe and inclusive campus. Earlier this year, the College launched its GAD Initiative with a three-day learning session and agenda writeshop in Balay Indang, where selected professionals from different units trained to become GADvocates, Benildeans committed to promoting gender sensitivity and equality in their departments. During the celebration of Pride Month in June, Benilde also hosted God and GAD, a dialogue on faith and inclusion. A separate Safe Spaces Act session for Associates was held on August 4, 2025, at the Duerr Auditorium.
