Pokémon TCG Roadshow Connects Play with Creative Learning

21 November 2025

The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) Academia Roadshow arrived at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde on November 13, bringing tutorials, friendly matches, and a lively community of players to the Design+Arts Campus. Organized by Romançon Gaming, the student organization for Benildean gamers, in partnership with WP Gaming, the event welcomed Benildean and non-Benildean enthusiasts to learn and enjoy the world of Pokémon TCG together.

Students joined tutorial sessions led by certified Pokémon TCG experts. Each participant received a starter deck to take home, along with special cards featuring Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. Free battles and a masterclass gave students the chance to practice their skills and connect with fellow players. The atmosphere at the 12th floor Cafeteria was vibrant, with card trading, games, and giveaways creating a fun and inclusive space.

The roadshow showed how a global brand like Pokémon can bring energy to student life when it connects directly with the campus. It also reminded everyone how relevant Benilde’s creative programs are today. The way the Pokémon TCG uses mechanics and strategy is similar to what students practice in the Game Design and Development program, where they learn to build interactive systems and experiences. The characters and stories that make Pokémon so memorable reflect the work of the Animation program, which trains students to design worlds and bring them to life. The wide reach of Pokémon across cards, shows, and digital platforms mirrors the skills taught in Multimedia Arts, where students create campaigns and outputs that speak to different audiences.

Events like the Pokémon TCG Academia Roadshow demonstrate how play and learning can come together in meaningful ways. They show how Benilde continues to be a place where students experience both global culture and academic innovation.
