Benilde Revamps Business Admin Program to Meet Tech-Driven Industry Demands

14 January 2025

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde has reimagined its approach to business education with the launch of the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Business Solutions and Applications (BSBA-BSAA). This rebranded program replaces the former BSBA major in Computer Applications, introducing a modernized curriculum tailored to meet the evolving demands of the digital economy. At the heart of this transformation is a groundbreaking new elective: Financial Technology (FinTech).

The FinTech elective, a first for the College, equips students with a comprehensive understanding of how technology is revolutionizing the financial sector. This course delves into blockchain, digital payments, and automated financial services, preparing students to thrive in industries reshaped by innovation. As global investment in FinTech surges—reaching substantial levels in recent years—professionals with expertise in this field are more valuable than ever.

Dr. Henry DV. Castro, Program Chairperson of BSBA-BSAA, explains the significance of this addition: “By introducing FinTech, we’re not just teaching students about finance or technology; we’re showing them how to lead and innovate in a world where the two are inseparably linked.”

Graduates of the BSBA-BSAA program are uniquely positioned for a range of high-demand careers at the intersection of business and technology, including Business Analyst, FinTech Specialist, Solutions Architect, IT Consultant, and Project Manager. These roles highlight the program’s emphasis on bridging the gap between business needs and technological solutions, ensuring its graduates remain competitive in the workforce.

Major courses retained in the curriculum include advanced office applications, business accounting, introduction to business processes, and enterprise inventory management. The program will likewise include enterprise logistics and distribution, fundamentals of business analytics, lean sigma, business case development, business process, and project management. These courses, combined with the low-code/no-code approach to software solutions, empower students to design and deploy technological interventions without a programming background, making the program accessible yet cutting-edge.

Other new offerings include leadership, blue ocean strategy, business continuity planning, scrum project management framework, and operations. These additions ensure that students not only understand business fundamentals but also gain critical skills for leadership and strategic planning in today’s fast-paced, tech-driven world.

While many programs offer general business education, BSBA-BSAA emphasizes technology integration at every level. Core courses like enterprise inventory management and business analytics are paired with project management and advanced office applications, giving students both the tools and the mindset to innovate.

Applications for the BSBA-BSAA program are now open for first-year college students. The deadline for Third Term AY 2024-2025 is March 21, 2025, and for First Term AY 2025-2026, the deadline is February 14, 2025.
