De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, through its Fashion Design and Merchandising program, signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Fashion Accessory Makers of the Philippines (FAMPH) at the Angelo King International Center (AKIC) Campus on July 17, 2026. The partnership connects Benilde’s academic work with the country’s accessory industry, creating new opportunities for students and faculty.
Earlier this year, Benilde received a DOST-PCIEERD grant to preserve heirloom jewelry traditions such as tamborin and filigree. The project documents these pieces as cultural heritage and explores how technology like CAD and 3D printing can support artisans. The new partnership with FAMPH builds on that effort by linking heritage research with industry practice. Students will not only study heirloom jewelry in the classroom but also see how it connects to contemporary accessory design and production.
This collaboration is especially important for the AB-FDM program, which prepares students to combine creativity, technical skills, and business strategies. The program includes courses in fashion illustration, pattern drafting, garment construction, digital tools, merchandising, and entrepreneurship. It also offers electives such as Fashion Accessories and Fashion Promotion, which connect directly to FAMPH’s expertise. With the partnership in place, these subjects gain practical depth through workshops, mentorships, and internships that tie classroom learning to the accessory industry.
Faculty members will join immersion activities and exposure visits, gaining firsthand knowledge of accessory production and market trends. Industry professionals will also take part in class activities, offering mentorship and guidance that enrich the learning experience.
For students, the collaboration opens pathways to internships and training with FAMPH’s network of designers and artisans. These opportunities allow them to apply their skills in professional settings, build portfolios, and gain visibility in both local and international markets.
Representing Benilde at the signing were Chancellor Benhur Ong, Vice Chancellor for Academics Angelo Marco Lacson, and Slim’s Fashion & Arts School Director Christine Cheryl Benet. FAMPH was represented by President Gina Nebrida Ty and Business Development Head Georgina Teng.
