Students from the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Culture-Based Arts (BFA-CBA) program can look forward to more workshops, exhibitions, artist talks, and printmaking activities following a new partnership between Benilde’s School of Arts, Culture, and Performance (SACP) and the Association of Pinoyprintmakers (AP), one of the country’s leading organizations dedicated to the practice and promotion of printmaking. Founded in 1968, AP has played an active role in developing printmaking in the Philippines through exhibitions, workshops, seminars, and collaborations with cultural institutions.
The partnership brings together SACP, the BFA-CBA program, and AP to support printmaking education, artistic practice, and cultural engagement through shared resources, facilities, expertise, collections, and collaborative projects.
One of the key parts of the agreement is the establishment of a printmaking space within Benilde that will house AP’s etching press, equipment, tools, and selected print collections. The setup gives students more opportunities to learn and create using facilities connected to professional printmaking practice.
AP will also organize at least one printmaking workshop every academic term for the Benilde community. Students can take part in hands-on learning sessions led by practicing artists while exploring different printmaking techniques and creative processes.
The collaboration also covers exhibitions, lectures, artist engagements, research initiatives, publications, and community projects. These activities give students more chances to learn directly from artists, share their work with the public, and participate in conversations about contemporary art and culture.
Students will also benefit from access to a wider network of printmakers. The Association of Pinoyprintmakers, formerly known as the Philippine Association of Printmakers, continues to work with artists, schools, galleries, and cultural institutions across the country. The organization regularly mounts exhibitions and educational programs and currently serves as the visual arts artist-in-residence group of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
The partnership connects closely with the goals of the BFA-CBA program, which explores Philippine arts, culture, and creative traditions while encouraging students to develop innovative and socially relevant artistic practices. Students study art history and theory, studio practice, creative entrepreneurship, and cultural engagement as they build careers as artists, designers, cultural workers, educators, and creative entrepreneurs.
Another feature of the agreement is AP’s annual donation of twelve original prints to the Benilde Art Collection. These works will provide students with additional opportunities to study examples of contemporary Philippine printmaking while helping grow the College’s art collection over time.
The collaboration comes as students and graduates from the Fine Arts program continue to earn recognition for their creative work. Recent achievements include a pioneering Fine Arts Benildean who opened a solo exhibition after becoming the youngest-ever grantee of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). Partnerships with organizations such as AP create more opportunities for students to engage with artists, explore different creative processes, and contribute to the country’s visual arts community.
