Shaping Architects for a World of Infinite Possibilities

For a graduating student whose work was recently awarded “American Standard Design Awards (ASDA) 2023 Best in Aesthetics” and is now summa cum laude with a  Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BS-ARCH program, Janelle Erica Y. Gan has no airs about her. “Benilde has honed my appreciation for service to others. My goal when I graduate is to continue having the passion to serve in the industry and help others in general.

The School of Environment and Design’s Bachelor of Science in Architecture program is a response to the challenge of producing architects who are competitive and relevant agents of positive change. “The way I see those around me is through the lens of empathy,” Janelle continues. “When I entered Benilde as a frosh, I was a very grade-conscious individual and a perfectionist. And now that I’m graduating, I focus more on the learning and growing aspects of college life. That’s how I can say that I have evolved.”

The program is focused on a Design and Leadership agenda, which aims to train future architects who can compete with the best in the ASEAN region through excellence in design and business. “I wanted to explore different types of creative design.” Janelle shares, “Architecture gave me the opportunity to explore interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary design. I enjoyed my stay in Benilde because it was a very freeing experience in terms of learning.”

Benilde Architecture graduates are endeavored to be trailblazers in design innovation through material sciences, technology, and engineering research. By identifying the correct problems and proposing the most excellent solutions, they are expected to become industry leaders and solution providers, responding to current and pressing social issues locally and globally.

Janelle feels ready to join the industry. “My mentors trained me very well. My peers were also good to be around. Benilde has shaped me in terms of helping me train to be very hardworking. I try my best through success and even failure. So I think that has prepared me for my future.
